‘Tweens can handle more sophisticated songs than kids, and their changing voices make technical training more important than ever. Musical skills are generally taught with the Young Singer’s Journey workbook series, but students with a lot of previous musical experience might use more advanced materials.

A note for parents: Besides depending on you for transportation, what ‘tweens need the most from you is encouragement and support. This is the age group that is the most likely to quit activities (even ones they have loved for years!) due to negative feedback. Realize that as their bodies and voices change, they are going to experience some awkward phases as singers and performers. Sometimes all they need is a reminder that it gets better!
